Newport/Cocke County Museum

Newport, TN

The Newport/Cocke County Museum displays local heritage with quilts, early home and farm tools, Native American artifacts, period room settings, and a WPA post office mural; also Cocke Co. natives Grace Moore, Gov. Ben W. Hooper and Charles McGaha. 

Directions: Located off Highway 321 in the Newport Community Center, one mile north of I-40 exit 435. Exit at 435; travel north to the third traffic light. Turn right onto Mulberry St. Go one block. Turn right onto Prospect Ave.

USA Raft - Pigeon River

Hartford, TN

Guided raft trips on the Pigeon River. Introductory whitewater trip minimum age of eight. Family trip, minimum age of four. No experience necessary. 

Directions: Take Exit 447 (Hartford Rd.) off I-40 near the North Carolina border. From the west: take a left at the end of the ramp, go straight at the intersection, and USA Raft is a few hundred yards ahead on the left. From the east: take a left at the end of the ramp and go under the highway, turn left at the gas station, and USA Raft is a few hundred yards ahead on the left.

Dollywood

The Great Smoky Mountains

Among the birds viewed in the park are Henslow’s Sparrow, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Cerulean Warbler, Red Crossbill, Black-capped Chickadee, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Golden-winged Warbler and the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker. 

Directions: Off I-40 either Exit 389 S. to U.S. 129 S. to U.S. 321 N. to Townsend entrance or I-40, Exit 407. Proceed to 66 S. to U.S. 441 to Gatlinburg entrance
